An Electrostatic Charge Neutralization Device for Continuous Manufacturing

September 24, 2025

The ETC is seeking companies to develop a device to mitigate and control electrostatic effects during continuous powder processing.
Active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and excipients frequently acquire electrostatic charges through triboelectrification or contact charging during powder processing. Contact charging arises from repeated interactions, such as rubbing or sliding, between two objects (e.g., particle-particle, particle-wall), resulting in a net positive or negative charge. The presence of electrostatic charges during continuous manufacturing of drug product causes material (i.e., powders, granules, and tablets) adhesion to surfaces, inconsistent and obstructed flow through equipment, intermittent system pauses, and concerns regarding the final drug product quality.
